Communicative competencies of English language consists of 5 (five) competencies, namely 1) linguistic competency, 2) discourse competency, 3) socioculture competency, 4) strategic competency, and 5) actional competency. Linguistic competency covers gramnar rules of the language. It discusses the modal, preposition and so on, so that the language is accurate. Discourse competency covers kinds of text, for example narratve, descriptive, analytical exposition and so on. Related to text, it discusses language features, generic structure and so on. ESP is greatly needed by vocational high school due to the departmental characteristics of vocational high school. As we know that vocational high school consists of certain departments, such as automotive, mechatronic, culinary, farming, fishery, agriculture, multimedia and so on. Because of the departmental characteristics of vocational high school, the English lesson taught should not be equal to the English lesson taught in senior high school. The English lesson should apply ESP. The English lesson taught in automotive should apply English for automotive. Through ESP, the English lesson will focus on the special need of every department; so that, the students are able to communicate in English based on their own departments.
